CCTN Oral Abstract Presentations

Submission Deadline: 23:59 (PT) Thursday 14 August

Each session will have four (4) presenters grouped together by similar presentation topic. An oral presentation is 10 minutes followed by a 3-minute discussion period.

The goal of the session is to present tobacco and/or vaping research, policy work, program development or clinical best practices.

Abstracts MUST be completed using the template provided.

Title:

Use a short, concise title to convey what the research, policy or program is about. 

Do not use acronyms or abbreviations (Title is not included in word count). 

Introduction:

Describe the topic and explain the motivation behind the research, policy work, program development or clinical best practices. 

Include how it addresses a gap in existing knowledge. 

Objective(s): Describe what the research, policy work, program development or clinical best practices are designed to accomplish.
Methods: Include clear, succinct description of what activities were undertaken, how data was collected or, how observations were conducted.
Results: Describe the main findings of the research, policy work, program development or clinical best practices.
Conclusions:

Summarize how the conclusions support the Objectives.  

Describe how the conclusions contribute to the future of tobacco control and/or vaping research, policy work, program development or clinical best practices.

Review Criteria

The following criteria will be used by reviewers to evaluate each submission:

  • Introduction: Abstract addresses an important issue and a gap in existing knowledge.
  • Objective: Are the objective(s) clear and describe what the research, policy, and program or best practices will achieve. 
  • Methods: Do the methods have a well-structured approach and are appropriate to the research, policy work, program development or clinical best practice.
  • Results and analysis: Do the results address the objectives and are logically derived from the methods. 
  • Conclusions: Are the conclusions supported by the results and contribute to the future of tobacco control and/or vaping research, policy work, program development or clinical best practices.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions must meet the following criteria to be eligible for peer review: 

  • Submissions must be uploaded using the online portal. E-mail submissions are not accepted.  
  • Presenting authors may submit a maximum of two abstracts. They can be identified as a co-author on an unlimited number of abstracts.
  • Data, other research, and sessions presented at other conferences may be submitted. 
  • The submitting author certifies that all co-authors and/or co-presenters agree to the submission.

Submissions that do not adhere to these criteria will not be accepted for peer review.

Abstract Acceptance

  • Each submission is reviewed and scored by at least two independent peer reviewers and final decisions regarding acceptance will be made by the Steering Committee.
  • Submitters will be notified of the outcome by Monday 8 September.

Registration

  • All speakers who present must be registered for at least one day of the conference by Friday 3 October in order to be included in the program. 
  • No financial assistance is available for registration fees.
