National Literacy and Health Program Partners
CPHA’s National Literacy and Health Program (NLHP) began in 1998 to promote awareness among health professionals of the links between literacy and health. The program focuses on health information in plain language and clear verbal communication between health professionals and the clients they serve. Literacy and Learning Organizations
ABC Life Literacy Canada
ABC Life Literacy Canada is a non-for-profit organization that inspires Canadians to
increase their literacy skills. They connect and mobilize business, unions,
government, communities and individuals to support lifelong learning and achieve their goals through leadership in programs, communications and partnerships.
Canadian Council on Learning
The Canadian Council on Learning (CCL) provides Canadians with the most current information about effective approaches to learning for learners, educators, employers and policy-makers by conducting research and supporting knowledge exchange through conferences and roundtables. CCL operates five knowledge centres in five regions across Canada (Health and Learning, Aboriginal Learning, Adult Learning, Early Childhood Learning, and Work and Learning). CCL has also published a number of reports on health literacy, including Health Literacy in Canada: A Healthy Understanding (2008).
Centre for Literacy of Quebec
The Centre for Literacy has been active in the field of health literacy and general literacy since its inception in 1989. The Centre’s Website includes many publications and links, in addition to information about the Centre’s community projects, workshops and conferences.
Literacy Partners of Manitoba
Literacy Partners of Manitoba has a plain language Website with a number of resources and tools to help adult learners navigate health systems. The Health Visit Prompt Card can be folded to fit into a wallet and helps with preparing for a visit to and communicating with health-care providers.

National Adult Literacy Database
The National Adult Literacy Database (NALD) is a digital library that provides documents and a resource catalogue, researches and organizes educational material found elsewhere on the Web, and publicizes literacy-related activities and events.
Nova Scotia School for Adult Learning
Nova Scotia’s adult learning program uses easy-to-understand health materials that were created to help improve literacy and overall health. The Senior’s Literacy program also features a health literacy manual for older adults.
Fédération canadienne pour l’alphabétisation en français
The Fédération canadienne pour l’alphabétisation en français is a pan-Canadian organization with a network of provincial and territorital associations. It is the only organization promoting literacy in French across Canada.

The specific mandates of this foundation are: referral, prevention, support to organizations, awareness and fundraising in Quebec.
