Public Health in
Canada: Shaping the Future Together
On the occasion
of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the
Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA),
public health professionals, researchers, policy-makers, academics and
students from across the country and around the world will meet in
Toronto to celebrate a century of achievements.
Using
lessons from the past and our understanding of the present, the goal of
this very special gathering is to envision how we can shape the future
of public health, and deepen our sense of purpose to achieve health for
all.
CPHA’s centennial conference will provide a
forum for public health practitioners working in research, policy and
practice to:
- learn from reflecting on the
past;
- describe current
activities;
- share successes and challenges;
and
- envision how we can shape the
future.
The objectives of our conference
are to:
- celebrate CPHA’s
100th anniversary and the achievements of the
public health community and its
leadership;
- showcase and learn from innovative
research, policies and practices that address the social, political,
cultural, economic and environmental determinants of health and promote
diversity;
- share successes and challenges in public
health programs, policies and practice;
- create a
forum for knowledge exchange among practitioners, planners, policy- and
decision-makers, researchers, the media, community organizations and
the public; and
- facilitate networking and mentoring
to strengthen the bonds within the current public health
community.
The scientific program will
encourage presentations that:
- Apply past
successes to future opportunities that aim to reduce disparity and
ensure health equity for all;
- engage and
collaborate across sectors, use whole-of-government approaches and
partner with communities and civil society;
and
- address future health human resource
requirements by creating an interest in and sense of excitement about
careers in population and public health, and nurturing a new generation
of public health
practitioners.
