Human Resources for Health





The World Health Organization (WHO) has defined 2006-2015 to be the “decade of human resources” and its World Health Report 2006 focuses on the critical challenges of human resources for health. Without adequate and appropriate human resources for health to support disease prevention, health promotion and health protection initiatives, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) cannot be achieved.

Public Health Associations (PHAs) and SOPHA partners are well positioned to address this issue. As civil society organizations with multidisciplinary memberships of public health professionals, PHAs can organize community-based interventions as well as advocate for policy and program initiatives that contribute to achieving the MDGs. Moreover, PHAs can monitor progress and identify challenges and appropriate responses.
