Partners

The project will take place in six municipalities, coordinated and implemented through local counterpart groupings of communities, municipal authorities, academia and civil society.  The local project sites will be:

State of São Paulo

The project’s lead partner in this municipality is the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in São Paulo.  This university implements health promotion programs within the north-western region of the State of São Paulo and trains community workers and facilitates the exchange of information between municipal and community stakeholders.  Through the “Rede de Municipios Potencialmente Saudáveis/UNICAMP”, a network of 42 municipalities working on health promotion, the municipality of Americana, in the state of São Paulo has been selected to participate in the IAH project.

State of Paraná

The two project lead partners in Curitiba are the Catholic University (PUC) and the Municipal Department of Health (SMS) of Curitiba.  They have well-established relationships with universities, businesses and elementary schools in the area from a previous health sector-related project.

State of Pernambuco

The lead collaborating partner is the Centre for Collective Health and Social Development (NUSP) of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE).  UFPE is implementing an ongoing project (Healthy Municipalities in the North-east of Brazil) with the goal of improving health by mobilizing local citizens in five municipalities (Barra de Guabiraba, Bonito, Camocim de São Félix, Sairé and São Joaquim do Monte).  The experiences and relationships built throughout this project will contribute to the IAH project’s objectives.

State of Ceará

Sobral's Municipal Health Department through the Visconde de Saboia Training School in Family Health is the local project partner.   This partner has extensive experience with intersectoral collaboration strategies.

State of Goiás

Goiânia has nominated the state’s Health Department (SES-GO) as the lead organization in this project.  In 2002, the Department of Health established a management council to promote intersectoral integration.  Following the establishment of this council, the SES-GO initiated a collaborative process with the departments of Agriculture, Institutional Affairs, Employment and Citizenship, Science and Technology, Environment, Housing, and Public Safety.  These relationships and the established committee are assets for the IAH project.

State of Rio de Janeiro

The lead partner in Manguinhos is ENSP/FIOCRUZ.  The project will be carried out in partnership with the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro, private companies with headquarters in the region, non-governmental organizations, and local leadership representatives from the Manguinhos Community Forum. The experiences will serve as an example for other favelas in the city.
