Intersectoral Action for Health (Brazil) – Expected results and activities
Brazil
Intersectoral
Action for Health:
Health Promotion as a Strategy for
Sustainable Local Development

Expected results and activities
The three expected results of the Intersectoral Action for Health project are:
- Enhanced capacity in each of the project partner sites to strengthen health promotion as a tool for local development.
- The creation of a common framework to guide health promotion and intersectoral collaboration
- The creation and application of strategies for dissemination of health promotion experiences and lessons learned
A variety of activities within the municipalities of the six local partners in Brazil will be implemented. The activities will consist of health promotion interventions and capacity building activities for local socio-economic development and intersectoral action for health. The activities will contribute to building a critical mass of local capabilities to create and sustain improvements in their social and physical environments that are conducive to improved health outcomes and quality of life.
Technical exchanges among the project partners will support training opportunities, tools and material preparation, and dissemination of information. The training component will consist of a capacity building workshop held at each local site as well as a health promotion/intersectoral action for health summer school in Canada for project partners. There will be various technical exchange missions to Canada and Brazil. Tools and materials will be prepared by the partners to educate local partners and facilitate coordination amongst other sectors. Three manuals will be prepared and standards for intersectoral action will be outlined, including a review and update of the 1997 WHO publication Intersectoral Action for Health: a cornerstone for Health-for-all in the Twenty-first Century (PDF: 401k). Dissemination of information will occur through presentations at conferences, workshops and meetings. A project portal will also be created to facilitate dissemination of information amongst partners throughout the duration of the project.
