The Intersectoral Action for Health: Health Promotion as a Strategy for Sustainable Local Development project seeks to improve the health of Brazilians using a intersectoral health promotion strategy to create sustainable local development, promote greater social equity and alleviate poverty.  It is a partnership initiative between Canada and Brazil, managed by the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) in association with the National School of Public Health Sérgio Arouca [Escola Nacional de Saúde Pública Sérgio Arouca – ENSP/FIOCRUZ] and the Brazilian Association of Post-Graduates for Collective Health [Associação Brasileira de Pós-Graduação em Saúde Coletiva - ABRASCO].  The project will be implemented in six municipalities in Brazil.  The project’s main purpose is to strengthen local capabilities to create and sustain improvements in the communities’ social and physical environments that are conducive to improved health outcomes.

This three-year project is supported financially by the Government of Canada through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).  It is endorsed by the Government of Brazil through the Agência Brasileira de Cooperação (ABC).
