Current Areas of Special Interest

Health Restructuring, Social Justice, Environmental issues

In this time of health reform and transition to a "wellness"-oriented health care system, issues related to ensuring the public’s health are of critical concern. The Association extends a warm welcome to all individuals who are interested in community health matters.

It is not necessary to belong to a specific health discipline to be a member of SPHA.

SPHA Series of Articles on Health Determinants

Supported by a Provincial Wellness Grant from Saskatchewan Health, Saskatchewan Public Health Association ANNOUNCES – A series of articles on issues affecting health for use in newspapers, newsletters, bulletins and other community publications

What keeps people healthy? Research shows that our living and working conditions have a larger impact on people’s health than health care. Things such as housing, income, social support, work stress and education make a big difference in people’s quality and quantity of life. The challenge for health services is to ensure these conditions are optimal for all. The stories and research in these articles on what determines health show ways that people and communities are "working together to improve health".

The articles were written for the Saskatchewan Public Health Association for wide distribution in the province. Please feel free to use the articles, crediting SPHA.

Presentation to the All-Party Committee on Tobacco
