Initial Assignment: Research Program

Position Description:

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health is seeking candidates for an Independent Scientist position with a focus on public health policy research. Reporting to the Executive Director of the Ontario Tobacco Research Unit the successful candidate will be required to lead a productive research program in an area of public health policy. Substantive areas of interest include obesity, healthy eating/active living, mental health and addictions. Responsibilities will include grant proposal preparation, conduct of policy research, publication of peer reviewed manuscripts and the training, mentoring and supervision of staff and students from a wide range of disciplines. Initially, this is a two year appointment at the level of Independent Scientist, but there is the possibility of extension and promotion to Senior Scientist. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of scholarship in public health policy. The position is located at the Russell Street Site.

Qualifications:

Candidates should have a PhD in a relevant discipline and a track record of internationally recognized public health policy related research. Postdoctoral research experience of at least five years in public health policy is desirable. Demonstrated capacity to generate successful research funding proposals, proven record of successful engagement with students, and extensive involvement with national and international research collaborations are also required. Candidates will possess a track record in contributing to knowledge on effective population level policies for reducing preventable death and disease and creating knowledge to drive public health policy change in areas such as chronic and infectious disease prevention and control.

The candidate will have excellent interpersonal and team-building skills and a demonstrated capacity for establishing research collaborations. You will also have demonstrated: the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary setting; the ability to provide leadership in a research environment; and the capacity to develop programmatic and collaborative research. The ability to work with persons of diverse ethnoracial and cultural backgrounds is also required. Strong interpersonal skills are essential. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.

This 2-year full-time, contract position is NOT part of any Bargaining Unit.
